Arsenal and Liverpool drew 1-1 in their Champions League quarter-final first leg encounter at the Emirates Stadium. Adebayor gave Arsenal a 23rd minute lead but Kuyt quickly equalised within three minutes to claim a vital away goal for Liverpool.
Rafa Benitez's side withstood strong second-half pressure, which included claims for a penalty by Alexander Hleb and also saw Niklas Bendtner inadvertently clear off the Liverpool goalline, to go back to Merseyside for the second leg next Tuesday on level terms. The first of three meetings between the sides in six days started cagily but after 20 minutes the Gunners suddenly sprang to life.
