Reds close to signing David Silva

Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have reportedly authorized a US$36 million deal to buy Valencia’s David Silva. Kop boss Rafa Benitez is raging after the Americans opposed the US$36 million move for Aston Villa skipper Barry, and the Spaniard’s angst has been compounded by the fact that the duo’s refusal to sanction the Barry transfer was not due to a lack of cash.

For once, the Anfield faithful have sided with the much hated Americans, with both parties stating that Barry’s arrival is unnecessary as the club already has Xabi Alonso in their ranks. Therefore, reports of being given the green light to sign the much vaunted Silva, who can play anywhere in the attacking third, would be music to the ears of Rafa, who will have no qualms about raiding his former club.
